New pricing template based on PLUS licensing specs

If you’re into stock photography, chances are that you are aware of the work by the PLUS coalition.

Pricing Profile based on PLUS Rights-Ready packs structure

Their mission is to “simplify and facilitate the communication and management of image rights”. As part of their work, they have defined licensing packs in order to “introduce a universal licensing standard for a streamlined form of image licensing”.

We love standards. And we have now created a new Rights-Managed pricing profile template that follows the structure of the PLUS Rights-Ready licensing packs, so that you don’t have to do it yourself. Note that PLUS is about licensing standards whereas this is about a pricing structure, but it gives a solid foundation if you want to license your work the PLUS way.

As for all pricing profile templates, the prices are yours to define (and you can also modify the structure, although if you do, it won’t follow the PLUS specs anymore).

  1. Is there a reason that the Rights Ready Pack was used, instead of the more differentiated (normal) PLUS Pack?

This is not a criticism. But I would be interested in the reasons for the decision.

The other set of packs is much closer to a more traditional RM scheme, like the one we already had, whereas the Rights-Ready packs also bring some simplification, and that’s why we picked the later.

In any case the template was build with the very same interface you have access to, so if you wish to create a profile based on the other set of packs, nothing prevents you from doing so ;) — in fact the work we have done with the Rights-Ready pack (values lists) would probably save you quite some time when defining a profile for the other set of packs.

  2. Hi J-F, is this looks very user friendly and a lot more transparent. Anyway for the client to see what the actual parameters are when they buy? Or a way to deliver the image with the terms and conditions?

I put my (adjusted) prices how I run them now next to the plus profile. It seems in general the client is a lot better off with the plus (standard) price profile. In the commercial section its the other way around tho, especially in the magazine sector. Is this correct?

Are you implementing this profile for yourself (maion.com) as well?

Another little thing: I see that I have a price of e.g. € 111.0 anyway to turn this into €111,00?

    Thanks,
    Vincent

The parameters are included in the receipt, and also in the Terms pdf delivered with the order, if you have one.

You can adjust the prices and the ratios to fully control the prices for e.g. commercial vs editorial uses – you don’t have to stick with the presets ;)
